11 days London to London from £1695 per person
Day
1. Depart London
Depart London on the overnight service to Kuching, changing planes in Kuala
Lumpur en-route.
Days 2 & 3. Kuching [B & L (Day 3 only)]
On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Merdeka Palace Hotel for a
2-night stay. On Day 3 explore Bako National Park on the look out for the
Long-tailed Macque, Leaf, and Proboscis Monkey, Bearded Pig, monitor lizard and
some of the 150 species of birds in the area.
Days 4 to 6. Batang Ai National Park [B, L, D]
Visit the Semenggok Botanical Research Centre and an Orang-utan Rehabilitation
Centre. Continue to Batang Ai Hydro Dam through rubber and pepper plantations,
to the Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse Resort, where you will be based for three
nights. Situated on the shores of a spectacular freshwater lake, the resort is
surrounded by mountains and the unspoiled rainforests of Sarawak. Its design is
based on the traditional timber longhouses of the region's native Iban Tribes.
Nearby is the 27,000 hectare Batang Ai National Park. Spend some time during
your stay here visiting local Iban longhouses and cruising the nearby river.
Days 7 to 9. Gunung Mulu National Park [B, L, D]
Today you fly to Mulu, via Miri, where you will be met and transferred to the
Royal Mulu Hotel for a 3-night stay, which is situated close to Gunung Mulu
National Park. Gunung Mulu National Park covers an area of 52,000 hectares,
varying in altitude from sea level to the peaks of Gunung Mulu at 2,377 metres
and Gunung Api at 1,682 metres. Over 3,500 species of plant have been recorded
in the park, as well as numerous butterfly, mammal and bird species including
deer, monkey and hornbill, though it has to be said that mammal and bird
sightings are rare. Mulu does however possess some of the largest and most
spectacular caves in the world, perhaps best known and certainly the most
visited is Deer Cave, the world's largest cave corridor where you may witness a
spectacular daily flight of bats from the cave each evening.
Days 10 & 11. Homeward [B (Day 10 only)]
Transfer to the airport for your overnight flight back to the UK, via Kuching.
