Itinerary
- 2009 departures
Day 1 To Beijing:Overnight flight
from London to Beijing with British Airways. (N)
Day 2 Beijing: Arrive in Beijing and transfer to
the Park Plaza Hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is located in central Beijing,
close to Tiananmen Square. This afternoon, visit the Temple of Heaven, dating
from the Ming dynasty and one of the city’s historic masterpieces. (N)
Day 3 Old Beijing: Morning tour of the Forbidden
City. After lunch at a local family’s residence, take a pedicab tour of the
hutongs, the narrow winding back streets, to catch a glimpse of daily life. Take
a boat trip on Shi Cha Hai Lake, with traditional music and local snacks. End
the afternoon with a drink on the edge of the lake, surrounded by 700 years of
Chinese history. (B, L)
Day 4 Great Wall: Take a full day tour to
Jinshanling Pass, a dramatic and relatively untouched part of the Great Wall.

Day 5 To Xian: This morning, visit the Imperial
Summer Palace. Fly to Xian and stay within the city walls at the Bell Tower
Hotel for 2 nights. (B)
Day 6 Terracotta Warriors: Full day visit to the
Terracotta Warriors. Evening Tang Dynasty music performance with dinner. (B, L,
D)
Day 7 To Nanjing: Morning visit to the city wall
and Shaanxi Museum. Fly to Nanjing and stay at the Mandarin Garden for 2 nights.

Day 8 Nanjing: Full day tour of Nanjing, including
a visit to Sun Yat-Sen’s Mausoleum, Xuanwu Lake Park and the Qin Huai Riverside.

Day 9 To Shanghai: Morning excursion to the Ming
Palace ruins, Ming Walls and City Gate and the Yangtze River Bridge. This
afternoon, board a train to Shanghai. Stay at the Central Hotel for 2 nights.

Day 10 Shanghai: Morning tour of Shanghai including
the Shanghai Museum, Yu Yuan Gardens and the Bund. Afternoon at leisure.
(Optional cruise on Huang Pu, payable locally.) (B)
Day 11 To London: Transfer to the airport and fly
to London with British Airways. (B)

Day 2 Beijing:
Arrive in Beijing and transfer to the Novotel Peace Hotel (see our comments
below) for 3 nights. Afternoon visit to the Temple of Heaven, dating from the
Ming dynasty and one of the city’s historic masterpieces. (N)
Day 3 Old Beijing:
Morning tour of the Forbidden City. After lunch at a local family’s residence,
take a pedicab tour of the hutong, the narrow winding back streets of Beijing.

Take a full day excursion to the Great Wall at Mutianyu and the Ming Tombs. (B,
L)
Day 5 To Xian:
This morning, visit the Imperial Summer Palace. Fly to Xian and stay within the
city walls at the Grand New World Hotel for 2 nights. (B)
Day 6 Terracotta Warriors:
Full day visit to the Terracotta Warriors. Evening optional Tang Dynasty music
performance with dinner (payable locally). (B, L)
Day 7 To Guilin:
Morning visit to the Shaanxi Museum and the old city. Fly to Guilin and stay at
the Guilin Park Hotel for 2 nights. (B, L)
Day 8 Li River:
Take a cruise down the Li River, through Guilin’s landscape of green limestone
hills, fishing villages and rice fields. Evening optional cormorant Fishing show
(payable locally). (B, L)
This cruise is amazing, some of the beautiful scenery you will ever see! You
might even be lucky like me and see the Water Buffalo.
Day 9 To Shanghai:
Morning excursion to Reed Flute Cave and Fubo Hill. This afternoon, fly to
Shanghai and stay at the Howard Johnson Plaza Shanghai for 2 nights. (B, L)
Day 10 Shanghai:
Morning tour of Shanghai including the Shanghai Museum and Yu Yuan Gardens.
Afternoon at leisure or take an optional cruise on Huang Pu and visit the 88th
floor Observation Deck at the Jin Mao Tower (payable locally). (B)
Day 11 To London:
Transfer to the airport and fly to London with British Airways. (B)
Note:
The tour involves some long walks and climbing steps, and therefore requires a
good level of fitness.

Our
comments on your hotels...
Novotel Peace Hotel, Beijing:
This hotel is located in the busy Wangfujing district, the historical, cultural
and shopping centre of Beijing. The hotel is a 45 Minute drive from Beijing
international airport, and a short walk from the Forbidden City and Tiananmen
Square. Great location, good for couples, families and single travelers. Walking
distance to the famous Beijing Night food market. Well worth a visit.
The Grand New World Hotel:
This hotel enjoys an excellent location in the west district of Xian, 1.5 km
from the City centre, 10 minute walk away from the Islamic Mosque and the local
market. The hotel reception has an amazing sculptured backdrop of the Terracotta
warriors which is simply stunning!. The hotel’s Chinese restaurant has a famous
chef from Hong Kong whose Guangdong cuisine is often highly praised. Again a
good all rounder for couples, families and single travelers.
The Guilin Park Hotel:
Situated between Lake Guihu and Mount Laoren near the city centre. Guilin park
commands some of the most picturesque views in Guilin Lying on a mountain slope,
surrounded by green trees and fresh flowers, the building combines modern arts
with a rich national flavor. Suitable for couples, families and single
travelers.
Howard Johnson Plaza Shanghai:
With its ideal setting in the heart of Shanghai’s financial district, the richly
appointed 27 storey Howard Johnson Plaza Shanghai stands within easy access to
the city most important business, cultural and entertainment hubs. Great all
rounder. An evening visit to the cosmopolitan centre of Xiantandi is a must,
here you can experience a wide variety of restaurants, designer shops or simply
just sit outside in one of the popular Music or Jazz bars enjoying a chilled
glass of wine and watch the world go by…..What a great way to relax and reflect
on all the amazing sights you have seen so far in China.
Tour + Sanya
Relax on the beach at Sanya on peaceful Hainan Island, China’s emerging seaside
resort.
Day 11 To Sanya:
Fly to Sanya and stay at the Mandarin Oriental or the Marriott Resort & Spa for
4 nights. (B)
