Fifteen minutes' drive from Muscat, a break in the mountains leads down to a spectacular bay with a long sandy beach. The beach is privately owned by the Al Bustan Palace Hotel and the hotel itself is directly behind. While large and of a high standard, the hotel has a traditional Arabian style (most clearly shown by the six-storey lobby, with high domed ceiling and tiered fountain) which makes it a far more appealing choice than the usual 'international' style hotel. The building was originally conceived as a guesthouse for visiting Heads of State and in fact the ninth floor is privately owned by the Sultan of Oman.
The beautiful, kilometre-long beach is the principle attraction and becomes the natural heart of the hotel during the day. A range of water sports, including scuba diving and windsurfing are offered here. Spreading out from the beach into the landscaped gardens are the pool, pool bar, tennis courts, jogging trail, volleyball court and massage tent. At one end of the beach it is possible to walk or swim to a small neighbouring bay, should you desire a more secluded spot.
The 'Al Khiran' main restaurant has a contemporary style and offers indoor and outdoor seating with breakfast, lunch and tastefully themed buffet dinners served daily, in addition to an Italian a la carte menu. 'Al Marjan' is a French fine dining restaurant, while 'China Mood', as the name suggests, serves authentic Chinese food. The choice of restaurants and cuisines are enough to satisfy almost every taste - and for those who would prefer to eat in the comfort of their room, a full room service menu is available 24 hours a day.
The rooms themselves are large and comfortable. All rooms have balcony with sea, mountain or garden view, TV with satellite channels and DVD player (the hotel has a DVD library with over 500 titles), mini-bar and bathroom with full bath and shower.

Arabian Deluxe Rooms: Are on the fifth and sixth floors, either sea or mountain facing, furnished in Arabian style. All rooms are large, with side table with chair, desk, satellite television with limited internet access, DVD player, mini-bar, king-size double bed and bathroom with full bath with shower over.
Al Bustan Deluxe Rooms: On the first, second and third floors, either sea or mountain facing. These rooms are decorated in a more ‘international hotel’ style. All rooms are large, with side table with chair, desk, satellite television with limited internet access, DVD player, mini-bar, king-size double or twin bed and bathroom with full bath with shower over.
Arabian Suites: Located on the seventh floor, the Arabian Suites have a sitting room and separate bedroom, attractively decorated in a Middle-Eastern style with traditional tiling and ornately carved wooden sofas and chairs. Arabian Suites have all the amenities of the Arabian Deluxe Rooms, sofa and chairs and kingsize double bed.
Executive Suites: Designed for business travellers, the eighth floor Executive Suites have a spacious bedroom and separate seating area to conduct business and modern, luxurious furnishings. All Executive Suites have seating area, king-size double bed and all the facilities of the Arabian Deluxe Rooms.
Deluxe Suites: Again on the eighth floor, these opulently furnished suites have hardwood and thickly carpeted floors and use of rich fabrics and elegant drapery. Each Deluxe Suite has a spacious sitting room, dining room (with a table for up to ten people) and fully fitted galley kitchen. (Rest assured, guests are not expected to prepare their own meals - the kitchen is for the use of the butler whose services are provided with the Deluxe Suites!) An interconnecting door leads to a second en suite bedroom if it should be required. Of course, all the standard facilities offered in the other room types are also included.
