This
is a Reykjavik landmark. Built in the 1930’s in an Art Deco style, the Borg
oozes elegance and understated luxury. It has just 51 rooms and 5 suites, each
individually characterised with its own colour scheme and signature look.
All rooms are well appointed – the high quality beds ensure a good nights sleep,
the furnishings are rich and sumptuous and the stylish bathrooms have their own
phone, in fact there are at least three phones in every room! They also have
satellite TV, video, CD, radio and internet access as well as an in-room safe,
well stocked mini-bar and tea and coffee making facilities. Room service is also
available.
The gourmet Palm Court restaurant presents international and regional cuisine in
a gracious setting and the wine list is extensive. The lively Kaffibrennslan,
part of the hotel, serves over 60 brands of beer and an excellent bar menu. Its
laid back atmosphere and friendly staff make it a popular choice amongst locals
and visitors alike. It is also a great place to sit and relax with a cup of
coffee whilst ‘people watching’.
The Borg overlooks the delightful Austurvollur, Reykjavik’s town square, along
side the Cathedral and Parliament buildings. The square is home to the capital’s
official, beautifully lit Christmas tree and it is just a few steps away from
Laugavegur, Iceland’s premier shopping avenue.
