Explore India’s Golden Triangle, and
then travel to the summer capital of the British Raj, Shimla – setting for the
TV series "Indian Summers". All hotels are ‘heritage class’ giving you the feel
of a bygone era. They include Clarkes Hotel in Shimla, described as an oasis of
calm on the bustling promenade. A heritage train ride to Kalka will complete the
Day 1 - UK
Overnight flight from the UK to Delhi.
Day 2 - Delhi
You will be met on arrival in Delhi and taken to the Maidens Hotel, Delhi , a
classic Raj-era hotel with oodles of period character. The remainder of the day
is at leisure.
Enjoy a full day's sightseeing tour of the historical city of Delhi. Begin in
the wide avenues of New Delhi, built by the British as the new seat of the
government. Our tour will take in the buildings of Lutyens and the India gate
memorial, along with the impressive tomb of Humayan, an early Mughal structure
of red sandstone and white marble.
The bustling and vibrant streets of Old Delhi are the focus of the afternoon's
activities. Visit the largest mosque in India known as the Jama Masjid and
Rajghat, the resting place (Samadhi) of India's favourite son, Mahatma Gandhi.
The day's sightseeing ends with a rickshaw ride through the convergent bazaars
of Chandni Chowk, the main trading centre of Old Delhi.
A day to further explore Delhi or relax in your hotel. If you're feeling
particularly energetic you could take a early morning cycling tour.
An early train will take you to Agra (two hours) before a full day tour of the
city. Sights include the Taj Mahaland Agra Fort. Take an evening train to Jaipur
(three hours) where you will stay at Samode Haveli for three nights.
A full day's sightseeing tour of the colourful city of Jaipur is organised
today. In the morning take an excursion to the hilltop Amber Fort . The
afternoon is spent exploring the old city, home to the City Palace and its
museums, the Hawa Mahal and the Jantar Mantar Observatory.
Day at leisure.
Take a morning flight to Chandigarh (with a change in Delhi) and drive to Shimla
(four hours) for a three night stay at Clarkes Hotel, Shimla .
This morning take a sightseeing tour of the town including the mock Tudor
Library, Christ Church, the Gaiety Theatre and the Viceregal Lodge. The
afternoon is free to relax, enjoy a walk or soak up the atmosphere of the busy
town centre mall. A round of golf is also possible at the 9 hole Naldehra Golf
A day at leisure with an option to see the neighbouring towns of Kufri, Chail
Take a heritage train to Kalka and connect on the Shatabdi train network to take
you back to Delhi. Stay one night at Maidens Hotel, Delhi .
Take a midday flight back to the UK.
