COCONUT BAY BEACH RESORT, Kovalam (Standard)
A small and intimate modern resort with a dedicated Ayurveda centre, overlooking a stretch of isolated beach in Kovalam. The accommodation is in air-cooled or air-conditioned cottages, there is also a Yoga centre and a swimming pool. The excellent location combined with personalised service and good food, make it a popular choice.
TRAVANCORE HERITAGE, Kovalam (First Class)
An elegant resort on a hillside overlooking the sea, it has 43 heritage villas with air-conditioning built in the ethnic style. There are facilities for Ayurveda as well as Yoga with an inviting pool. There is a lift to get down to the beach and the new modern block with 20 rooms is located at sea level.
LEELA KOVALAM BEACH RESORT, Kovalam (Deluxe)
One of the best-located beach hotels in the country, perched on a hillock with beautiful views of the beach, the famous architect Charles Correa won a prestigious award for its unique design. The 106-room hotel has an inviting pool, two restaurants and a bar. The beach is approached by a steep flight of stairs but there is also a longer more gradual route. The more expensive Grove Cottage are at sea level with their own pool, bar and restaurant. The accommodation is air-conditioned.
GREEN COVE RESORT & SPA, Kovalam (Deluxe)
A new luxury resort in Kovalam run by the Taj Group, it has elegantly furnished rooms and suites, hillside cottages, and floating cottages on the backwaters. The facilities include a choice of restaurants, a bar, a swimming pool and fitness center, a tropical spa in the main building and a floating Ayurveda center.
SURYA SAMUDRA BEACH RESORT, Kovalam (First Class)
An exclusive boutique resort south of Kovalam; it has 21 ethnic style cottages with open-air en suite facilities. Built on a cliff it overlooks a fine stretch of beach and the constant sea breeze obviates the need for air-conditioning. It has a pool in natural settings, facilities for Ayurveda, and a highly recommended chef.
MARARI BEACH RESORT, Mararikulam (First Class)
An hour's drive from Cochin and four hours from Trivandrum, this excellently run resort in ethnic style, set in 25 acres of coconut palm groves, has 52 air-conditioned cottages with private verandahs and an open-air en suite bathroom. An inviting pool, extensive Ayurveda facilities, excellent seafood and a long stretch of sandy beach make the stay here worthwhile. Some cottages have private plunge pools - available for a supplementary charge.
