Itinerary...

Day 1 London-Delhi

Leave London Heathrow, UK by British Airways in the morning for Delhi, arriving around midnight. Transfer to the Park Royal/Grand Intercontinental, deluxe modern hotels, for 2 nights.

Day 2 Delhi

The morning is at leisure. In the afternoon we visit the bazaars of Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi, Jamia Masjid, the largest mosque in India and Rajghat - the "samadhi" of Mahatma Gandhi. A welcome dinner in ethnic setting is arranged in the evening.

We drive to the heart of Rajasthan today for overnight stay at the Samode Palace or the Samode Bagh. Richly decorated walls and ceilings, personalized service from the staff of the "maharaja" and the beautiful location of the palace on a hillock, and the "bagh" in the midst of acres of greenery, offer an unforgettable experience.

Day 4 Mandawa

A short drive brings us to Mandawa where we stay at the interesting Desert Resort, built like a village but with modern amenities. In the afternoon a visit to local mansions with their colourful murals and wall paintings is arranged.

Day 5 Bikaner

Today we proceed to the fortified city of Bikaner and check into the Laxmi Niwas Palace, a beautiful royal mansion. We visit the local sights including Junagarh Fort, built by Raja Rai Singh.

Day 6 Jaisalmer

A long drive to the medieval town of Jaisalmer, in the heart of the Thar Desert. We stay 2 nights at the Fort Rajwada or Gorbandh Palace, well run modern hotels.

Day 7 Jaisalmer

The morning sightseeing of the town includes the 12th century fort on Trikuta hill, the Jain temples and Gadisar tank. In the evening we enjoy a camel ride across the dunes to see the sunset.

Day 8 Jodhpur

We drive to Jodhpur for overnight stay at the Taj Hari Mahal, a deluxe hotel in traditional style. The afternoon city sightseeing includes the Jaswant Thada and the imposing Meherangarh Fort.

Day 9 Ranakpur-Udaipur

A scenic drive this morning brings us to Ranakpur, where we visit the beautiful Jain Temple complex, built in 1439. This marble temple has 29 halls supported by 1444 ornately carved pillars, no two of which are alike. After lunch in the pleasant surroundings of Maharani Bagh orchards we drive on to the romantic city of Udaipur. Our stay for the next two nights is at the Shikarbadi, a former hunting lodge of the Maharana of Udaipur. It is possible to stay at the famous Lake Palace in the middle of Lake Pichola in a room with lake-view or in an opulent suite at the Shiv Niwas Palace, overlooking the lake or at the luxurious Udai Vilas. These are on offer for a supplementary charge.

Day 10 Udaipur

The morning city sightseeing includes the City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, Jagdish Temple and Sahelion-ki-Bari, a garden built for the Maids of Honour. The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 11 Deogarh (or Pushkar)

A short drive to Deogarh Mahal, a fortified palace in the heart of Deogarh village, where we stay for 2 nights. For some departures we drive on to Pushkar, another colourful village and stay at the well run Pushkar Resorts.

Day 12 Deogarh

The day is free to explore the colourful village and visit Gokal Vilas, the residence of the local "rawat" or ruler. Set amidst elegant gardens, the residence overlooks a private lake, rich in birdlife.

Day 13 Jaipur

Today we drive to Jaipur for two nights at the charming Samode Haveli, the city residence of the Samode royal family.

Day 14 Jaipur

In the morning we enjoy an excursion to the hilltop fort at Amber, ascended on elephant back. On the way back we visit a small block-printing factory. The afternoon city sightseeing includes the City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and the museum.

Day 15 Bharatpur-Agra

Drive in the morning to the renowned Bharatpur sanctuary for bird watching. After lunch proceed to Agra visiting Fatehpur Sikri en route. Our stay for the night has been arranged at the Mughal Sheraton, a deluxe modern hotel, with the option of upgrading to the Amar Vilas, a luxury boutique hotel.

Day 16 Agra-Delhi

The morning city sightseeing includes the Agra Fort and the dreamlike Taj Mahal. In the afternoon we drive to Delhi airport to board our return flight, departing just after midnight.

Day 17 Delhi-London

We fly back to Heathrow arriving the same morning.

Pushkar Festival & Camel Fair tour departing Sun 22 October 2006. Two nights in Pushkar (full board), 02-04 November, in a luxury tented camp and one night less in Deogarh. Group size 16.

Suggested Tour Extensions

Khajuraho-Varanasi (4 days) - Stay on in Agra for an extra night. Next morning travel by train to Jhansi and transfer to Khajuraho via Orchha. Stay at the Jass Hotel/Taj Chandela for 2 nights and visit the Chandela temples. Fly to Varanasi for a night at the Taj Ganges. Visit Sarnath and enjoy a boatride on the Ganges before flying back to Delhi to connect with your flight to Heathrow, just past midnight. Meal Plan: Bed & breakfast


Bandhavgarh (5 days) - Board an afternoon train from Agra (AC Sleeper Class), arriving Bandhavgarh the following morning. Transfer to the Nature Heritage/Tiger Trails for 3 nights. Enjoy three days of jungle visits before taking an overnight train back to Delhi (AC First Class). A room will be arranged for the day before your return flight, just past midnight. Meal Plan: Full board in the park, meals on trains excluded, Delhi on room only


Shimla (4 days) - Return to Delhi and board the Kalka Mail for an overnight journey (AC First Class) to Kalka. Change to the hill train for Shimla. Stay 3 nights at the Cecil Hotel before driving down to Chandigarh for a short flight to Delhi. A room will be arranged for you to relax before boarding your flight home, just past midnight.  Meal Plan: Bed & breakfast, Delhi on room only


Amritsar (3 days) - Return to Delhi and board the Golden Temple Mail for an overnight journey (AC First Class) to Amritsar. Stay 2 nights at the Ritz Hotel (Standard grade). Visit the Golden Temple, in the middle of a man-made lake, and the border outpost at Wagah. Return to Delhi on the morning Shatabdi. A room will be arranged till your departure for the return flight, just past midnight. Meal Plan: Bed & breakfast. Meals on trains are excluded, but Shatabi to Delhi has inclusive breakfast. Delhi on room only.


Kathmandu (3 days) - Return to Delhi and board the evening flight to Kathmandu. Transfer to the Yak & Yeti (or Dwarika's - suppl.) for 3 nights. Visit the city, Patan and Bhadgaon. Fly back to Delhi to connect with your flight to London, just past midnight. Meal Plan: Bed & breakfast


Goa (5 days) - Return to Delhi and stay overnight at the Park Royal/Grand. Next morning fly to Goa for 4 nights at the Taj Exotica/Leela Hotel (other options on request). Fly back via Mumbai. Meal Plan: Bed & breakfast


Corbett (3 days) - Return to Delhi and stay overnight at the Park Royal/Grand. Next morning drive to Corbett for 2 nights at the Infinity Resorts, with all jungle activities included. Drive back to Delhi to connect with your return flight, just past midnight. Meal Plan: Bed & breakfast, Corbett on full board


Delhi Extra Day (1 days) - If you wish to spend more time in Delhi you can fly out a day earlier. We will receive you separately at Delhi airport and book the hotel for an extra night. Meal Plan: Bed & breakfast
