Namibian Odyssey Group Tour

Fully escorted private tour £3,995 per person sharing £500 - Namibia main menu

Wednesday 16th September
London/Gatwick-Windhoek - Air Namibia, Flight - SW386,
Check-in 1830, Depart 2130, Arrive 0745

Thursday 17th September
You will be met at Hosea Kutako Airport (Windhoek) by our agents and driven north to Okinjima. Okinjima lies nestled in the unspoilt beauty of the Omboroko Mountains, part of the Waterberg Plateau and is home to the Africat Foundation, committed to researching and rehabilitating Namibias threatened wild cat population.
2 nights - Okinjima Main Camp, Full board and activities

Saturday 19th September
You will continue driving north to Mokuti Lodge and game viewing at the Etosha National Park, one of the largest and best Game Parks in Africa. Herds of fifty elephant are not unusual and there are zebra, wildebeest, oryx, jackals, black rhino and bird life including the ground hornbill and lilac breasted rollers with eagles and vultures cruising high above.
2 nights - Mokuti Lodge, Dinner, bed and breakfast

Sunday 20th September
The route leads via the Etosha National Park, further south to Twyfelfontein, Damaraland to Mowani Mountain Camp.

This area boasts magnificent desert scenery, fascinating geological formations, archaeological sites and a unique variety of desert fauna and flora. It’s also the Southernmost roaming ground for the rare black rhino and desert elephant. This is where you will find the Twyfelfontein Conservancy and the Mowani Mountain Camp.

Mowani Mountain Camp nestles amongst the boulders of this beautiful area on a high spot commanding distant views over the ancient landscape. The luxury-tented accommodation is built unobtrusively, so as to ensure minimum impact on the natural environment.

The stilt-like supports of the tents ensure that very little excavation was needed in order to create this special oasis. Much care has been taken with the design of the public areas, creating the impression of an African Village, with dome-like thatched structures that blend in with the imposing boulders, which are scattered around the outcrops

2 nights - Mowani Mountain Camp, Dinner, bed and breakfast

Tuesday 22nd September
A visit to Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes in the morning.
Twyfelfontein is the largest known concentration of Stone Age petroglyphs in the country. Although the area was declared a national monument in 1952 some engravings were damaged and even removed. There are approximately 2 500 engravings around Twyfelfontein. The age of engravings has not been determined precisely but there is evidence that area was occupied as early as 6 000 years ago.
The Organ Pipes, a mass of perpendicular dolerite pillars, is located down the river bed. Formed by the intrusion of volcanic rock dolerite about 120 million years ago.
Burnt Mountain was formed when.volcanic lava intruded into Karoo limestone, giving the mountain its distinctive colour

Later, an afternoon drive in the Huab River in search of desert elephants and other game

Wednesday 23rd October
Scenic drive via Uis and Henties Bay to Swakopmund, an eclectic mixture of Bavarian spires and elaborate German architecture wedged between one of the worlds harshest deserts and the even harsher coastline of the Skeleton Coast. Swakopmund is home to the descendants of German settlers, stately Herero women in Victorian dress, miners, artists, game rangers and fishermen.

2 nights - The Stiltz, Bed and Breakfast

The Stiltz Hotel offers the most spectacular views in Swakopmund overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Swakop riverbed, the sand dunes and the bird rich lagoon at the river mouth. If that does not take your breath away, the architecture of these wooden bungalows built on stilts will. Each private bungalow has been attended to in the finest detail, interlinked by wooden walkways to the others and to the main dining bungalow.

Thursday 24th September
Optional boat cruise on Walvis Bay Lagoon. You will be driven to the Yacht Club in the neighbouring town of Walvis Bay. The trip takes you around the lighthouse at Pelican Point where a large colony of Cape Fur seals has established themselves. The waters around the lighthouse are also home to the Heavyside dolphin, sunfish and Leatherback turtles. Later that afternoon you will be taken into the desert to enjoy sunset in the Moon Landscape, a seemingly never-ending series of bizarre, moon-like hills

Friday 25th September
Drive into the low plains of the Namib, via Kuiseb Canyon to Sossusvlei.
Internationally known as a photographer’s dream, its monumental dunes were formed by multi-directional winds and are at their highest where the Tsauchab River empties itself into the vlei.

2 nights - Sossus Dune Lodge, Dinner, bed and breakfast

Saturday 26th September
An excursion to Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei
which is remarkable in that there is not even moisture enough for normal decomposition to occur. So all the trees here, though dead, have been nearly perfectly preserved for centuries. Sesriem Canyon, a small canyon. It’s a nice place to watch the sunset, and you can easily climb down into the canyon and walk along the dry riverbed.

Sunday 27th September
After breakfast, drive to Wolvedans, which takes its name from the Afrikaans -“where the wolves dance”, and  is situated in the heart of Namib Rand Nature Reserve, just south of Sossusvlei. Nestled amidst red dunes and set against a backdrop of unparalleled beauty, Wolwedans provides the perfect base from which to explore and has some of the most beautifully photographic scenery imaginable

2 nights, Wolwedans Dunes Camp, Full board incuding activities

Tuesday 29th September
