The Schubertiade is an annual fixture in the diaries of music lovers the world over, especially in Britain, who flock each June and September to the impossibly picturesque villages dotted throughout the Voralberg region of Austria. We have chosen seven wonderful concerts which reflect the very nature of this Festival and we are confident that it will appeal to lovers of the voice and chamber music alike. Concerts are given in the beautiful Angelika-Kauffmann Saal in the village of Schwarzenberg. This lovely concert hall is surrounded by alpine meadows and is overlooked by towering mountains, a truly rural idyll in which to enjoy the music and commune with nature.
5 September Steven Osborne, piano: Preludes - Debussy; Sonata in G Major D894 - Schubert. 6 September Chamber concert: Prelude to Capriccio and Metamorphsen - Richard Strauss; Quintet KV516 - Mozart. 7 September Ian Bostridge, tenor and Antonio Pappano, piano: Songs by Schubert and Wolf. 8 September Belcea Quartet, Ian Bostridge, tenor and Antonio Pappano, piano: Quartet Op76/4 – Haydn; Quartet D804 ‘Rosamunde’ – Schubert; On Wenlock Edge - Vaughan Williams. 9 September Chamber concert: German Dances D89 – Schubert; Eine kleine Nachtmusik KV525 - Mozart. Ian Bostridge, tenor, Antonio Pappano, piano: the second of two recitals of songs by Schubert and Wolf. 10 September Anne-Sofie von Otter, mezzo-soprano, Gerald Finley, baritone, Julius Drake and Bengt Forsberg, piano: songs and duets by Faure.
During our stay there will be an excursion through the region to Rothis for a wine and cheese tasting and exploration of the Bregzerwald. Many walks, from easy to strenuous, start from the village and all guests will receive a travel pass for the efficient network of buses and cable-cars to allow you the freedom to explore the area independently.
