The Lofoten Islands are stunningly beautiful at any time of year, but in early inter, with the opportunity to take a killer-whale safari, and the possibility of spectacular Northern Lights you have an irresistible combination! Start the holiday in the lovely city of Tromsø, and travel to Lofoten on what is without doubt the most dramatic sector of the Coastal Voyage, and you have a truly unforgettable experience.

Extra nights can be added in Tromsø or Svolvær as required. With an extra night in Svolvær you have the possibility of another whale safari if you wish, or the chance to visit art galleries and picturesque fishing villages.  ther activities available include deep sea rafting on Sunday mornings. Viking banquets, as featured in our New Year package, are also available on alternate Fridays during the season. Further details available on request. Killer Whale Safaris from Lofoten are operated with a comfortable well-equipped boat, experienced crew and knowledgeable guide. Early in the season it may be necessary to depart from further west in the Lofoten Islands (e.g. Ballstad, Nusfjord or Reine) as the whales may be further out in the fjord. This will involve a car or coach journey of a maximum 11⁄2 hours, at an extra cost of about £5 pp payable locally. This would however allow you to enjoy more of the stunning Lofoten scenery.

Few places capture the spirit of the Lofoten Islands as conveniently or comfortably as Svinøya. On a small island, linked to the mainland with an impressive bridge, these rorbuer, or fishermens cabins, are within 15 minutes walk of the centre of Svolvær. Svinøya dates back to 1828, when the rorbuer offered shelter to the fishermen who came from far and wide for the cod fishing season. The old wharf has been converted to a highly atmospheric bar and high-quality restaurant. Some of the cabins are beautifully restored originals, others are more recently built in traditional style. They offer one, two or three bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge with TV, and a modern bathroom with shower/wc.

Tromso, Lofoten & Killer Whale - 4 night package - example itinerary, this can be tailored to your requirements...

DAY 1. Depart Heathrow at 10.20 for Oslo and onward flight to Tromsø, arriving 18.10.
1 night Bed and Breakfast – Tromsø Radisson SAS or Rica Ishavshotel.

DAY 2. At leisure to enjoy Tromsø’s museums, shops or even a husky-safari if weather conditions permit. (See page 7 for details). In the late evening you board the south-bound Coastal Voyage to Svolvær with a comfortable outside cabin included. 1 night Bed and Breakfast – Coastal Voyage.

DAY 3. Enjoy the spectacular scenery as the ship sails past the Vesterålen Islands, through the narrow Raftsundet strait to Lofoten, arriving Svolvær 18.30. Transfer to Svinøya Rorbuer. 2 nights Half-board – Svinøya Rorbuer, Svolvær.

DAY 4. At leisure in Svolvær, with optional activities as required.

DAY 5. Transfer to Svolvær Airport for 11.30 flight to Bodø and onward connection via Oslo, arriving Heathrow 16.25.

Orca and Nature Safari - Thursdays/Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays, 30 October – 11 January except 25-28 Dec. Additional departures 30/31 December. An enjoyable safari in a comfortable, wellequipped boat, in search of killer-whales, seaeagles etc, but also an opportunity to enjoy the spectacular Lofoten scenery. A slide-show precedes the safari, and a knowledgeable guide will accompany you. Warm clothing is included, and a light lunch is served on board.
