01October, “Depart from London Heathrow”

Check in this evening at the South African Airways Counters for the onward flight in Economy Class Seating to Johannesburg International Airport, departing from London Heathrow.

02 October, “Arrive Johannesburg “

07.30 hrs – South African Airways Flight SA 235 arrives at Johannesburg International Airport this morning from London Heathrow.  Here, you will connect onto the onward flight in Economy Class Seating to Port Elizabeth Airport.

11.00 hrs – South African Airways Flight SA 405 arrives at Port Elizabeth Airport this morning from Johannesburg International Airport.  Welcome on arrival by your Tana Travel Representative, who will hand over travel documents and transfer you in air conditioned vehicle to the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve – Main Lodge, which will be your base of stay for the next 3 nights. 

Kwandwe Private Game Reserve lies in the heart of South Africa’s malaria-free Eastern Cape near Grahamstown, and is a natural conclusion to a journey along the world-famous Garden Route. A victory for far-sighted conservation, 20 000 hectares (49 000 acres) of farmland in the Great Fish River region were restored and restocked with African wildlife. Today, thousands of animals including lion, black and white rhino, buffalo and elephant roam this diverse and fascinating reserve.

Check in on arrival at the main reception area of the lodge, with some time at your leisure to relax and unwind.  In the later part of the afternoon, meet with your Game Ranger for Tea / Coffee, light snacks and short introduction talk on the reserve.  Depart in open safari vehicle into the reserve, enjoying Game Viewing of the Big 5 on route and sundowner cocktails while watching the African Sunset over the reserve.

Return to the lodge in the later part of the evening for a Traditional African meal

03 nights – Double Chalet – Full Board Basis – Kwandwe Private Game Reserve – Main Lodge

03 – 05 October, “The Game Viewing Experience”

Early morning wake up call each morning by your Game Ranger for Tea / Coffee.  Depart in open safari vehicle into the reserve with your experienced Game Ranger and enjoy early morning game viewing while the sun rises over the Wildlife of Africa.  Return to the lodge mid morning, for breakfast, with the rest of the days at your leisure to relax and unwind. 

Kwandwe Main Lodge is stylishly furnished in Frontier Settler style, integrating local African culture with colonial settler history. Elegant thatched stone and glass suite feature floor-to-ceiling doors, which fold back to reveal uninterrupted wilderness vistas. Guest areas have a large fireplace with massive stone chimney, and a soaring thatched roof with imposing chandeliers.
Twice-daily game-drives  Experienced CC Africa rangers and Xhosa trackers will lead you on interpretative, twice-daily game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, bringing you close to Africa’s Big Five. Fascinating nocturnal animals such as aardvark, aardwolf, porcupine, Cape fox, bat-eared fox and springhare are regularly encountered on exciting night drives.   Guided River walking/hiking or fishing  Guided bush walks in Kwandwe’s pristine wilderness bring you face-to-face with wild Africa at its best. Hiking along the river is especially rewarding for those interested in birds, vegetation and folklore, and fishing is available for enthusiasts (Kwandwe supports ‘tag and release’ procedures).   Canoeing Catch sight of some of Kwandwe’s incredible birdlife while paddling along the Great Fish River in a sturdy canoe.   Rhino tracking experience the thrill of tracking rhino on foot under the guidance of an experienced ranger and tracker – an unforgettable safari adventure. Golf and polo It is possible to organise golf and polo tours in the vicinity of Kwandwe. Whale watching air safari The Port Alfred Flying Club offers breathtaking whale watching flights over the bay. This adventure is seasonal – June to November.

 05 October, “Continue to the town of Knysna”

Final early morning wake up call this morning from your Game Ranger for Tea / Coffee and light snacks.  Depart for your final game viewing activity into the reserve, enjoying game viewing on route.  Return to the lodge mid morning, for breakfast.  After breakfast, settle all personal accounts and check out of the lodge.  Return transfer to Port Elizabeth Airport with your English Speaking Driver.  Here, you will collect your hired car from the Europ Car Depot and depart along the Garden Route to the town of Knysna.  The journey today will take you through the coastal towns of Cape St Francis, Plettenberg Bay and onto the town of Knysna.  Suggestion would be to stop in the town of Plettenberg Bay for lunch

In the afternoon, arrive in the town of Knysna.  Check in this afternoon at the main reception area of St James of Knysna, with the rest of the afternoon and evening at your leisure.  This will be your base of stay for the next three nights

Breakfast at the St James of Knysna each morning. The rest of the days will be at your leisure for optional sightseeing activities.

Natural paradise of lush indigenous forests, tranquil lakes and golden beaches adorns South Africa’s unspoilt southern coast. Nestling on the banks of a shimmering lagoon in the heart of this ‘Garden Route’ is the picturesque town of Knysna. Beaches, lakes, mountains and rivers provide endless opportunity for leisure and outdoor adventure. Within the town, craft shops, flea markets and cozy cafe’s beckon with small-town charm and hospitality.

Knysna is synonymous with fine indigenous timbers, and famed for the craftsmanship of its furniture and timber products.  Perhaps enjoy a train journey on the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe, departing from Knysna Station to George Station.  Travel through the forests of Knysna, enjoying spectacular sights on route.  This is not included

08 October, “Continue to Swellendam”

Breakfast at the GuestHouse this morning.  Settle all personal accounts and check out.  Travel along the Garden Route, through George and Mossel Bay, Riversdale and onto the town of Swellendam, to the Klippe River Country Estate, which will be your base of stay for overnight. 

Stop on route for lunch during the day, perhaps in the town of Riversdale  

Check in this afternoon at the main reception area of the Country Estate, with the rest of the afternoon and evening at your leisure to relax and unwind.

Klippe Rivier has fragrant herb and vegetable gardens and a small orchard. Candle-lit, silver service country cuisine dinners are served with coffee, friandises and a frog serenade to end the evening.   The original waenhuis and stables have been converted into six spacious and luxurious en suite bedrooms, all with wonderful mountain views, and some have fireplaces.  A charming thatched cottage, decorated with African flair, is perfect for honeymooners.   Explore the nearby Bontebok National Park, De Hoop Nature Reserve, and Drostdy Museum. Drive along the Breede River and cross the Pont at Malgas.  Make your way down to Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, or explore the lush wine regions of Bonnievale and Robertson

Breakfast at the Country Estate this morning.  Settle all personal accounts and check out of the Country Estate.  Continue the journey to the Heart of the Cape Winelands, to the town of Franschoek and onto the Franschoek Country House, which will be your base of stay for the next 2 nights.

Check in at the main reception area of the Country House this afternoon, will the rest of the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

Cape Dutch architecture, gentle walks in the valley and tales of its Huguenot heritage are all part of Franschhoek's charm. Visit the Huguenot Monument and learn of the families who settled on land in the Cape given to them by Governor Simon van der Stel. With them, they brought their in expertise agriculture and wine-making. The wine cultivars introduced by the Huguenots have today matured into a complete range of renowned quality red and still white wines and port. Relax and enjoy the beauty of the valley in the comfort of the Franschhoek Country House & Villas.

11 October, “Continue to the Mother City – Cape Town”

Breakfast at the Country House this morning.  Settle all personal accounts and check out of the Country House.  Travel inland today, to the Mother City Cape Town and onto the Winchester Mansions, which will be your base of stay for the next 5 nights. 

Stop on route for lunch during the day.

In the early part of the afternoon, check in at the main reception area of the Winchester Mansions, with the rest of the afternoon and evening at your leisure. 

12 October, “The Two Oceans - Cape Point”

Breakfast at the hotel this morning.  Today, it would be suggested that you take a leisurely drive to Cape Point.  Travelling through the towns of Simon’s Town, stop on route at Boulders Beach to see the World Famous Cape Penguins and then onto Cape Point.  Enter the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, enjoying scenic landscapes of the Cape Coastline, reaching the famous Point of Africa, Cape Point.  Take a funicular ride to the lighthouse and take in breathtaking views of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meeting. Enjoy a light beverage at the Two Oceans Restaurant, before enjoying the leisurely drive back to the City of Cape Town.  An excellent idea for lunch is to stop at the Black Marlin Restaurant, situated just outside Simons Town and enjoy some of the finest Seafood Cuisine in true Cape Style.  Sitting out side, while watching the magnificent Atlantic Ocean

In the later part of the afternoon, return to Winchester Mansions.  Tonight, it would be suggested to enjoy a light meal at one of the many restaurants on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront Complex.

13 October, “Table Mountain and Cape Town City Centre”

Breakfast at the hotel this morning.  Suggestion would be to head for the summit of Table Mountain this morning, enjoying a cable car ride.  Take in breathtaking views of Cape Town Harbour, Robben Island, Blouberg Strand and Camps Bay.  Enjoy a light beverage at the Bistro, before descending. 

Enjoy lunch during the day.   No visit to Cape Town is complete without a tour of The Mother City. See the Houses of Parliament, the Castle, the South African Museum, and other historical sights. A highlight is a visit to the bustling Greenmarket Square fleamarket.

Breakfast at the hotel this morning. Find out firsthand why it is called the Fairest Cape. Depending on the weather, enjoy a leisurely walk in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in the morning or afternoon. Travel past Sea Point and Camps Bay, past the famous beaches of Clifton and Llandudno towards Hout Bay, perhaps enjoying a Seal Cruise in Hout Bay. Drive along the breathtakingly scenic Chap-mans Peak Drive, around the Atlantic Seaboard. 

Enjoy lunch at your leisure during the day  

This evening, start off with a sundowner cruise around Cape Town Harbour – these can be booked on the Waterfront area.  Enjoy champagne while cruising around the harbour – pre-booking essential

15 October, “At leisure"

 

Breakfast at the hotel this morning.  Today, may we suggest a cruise to the World Famous, Robben Island.  Depart from the Clock Tower on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, for the three-hour step back into the History of Nelson Mandela – South Africa’s Former President.  The course will start with a short introduction video of the island. On arrival at the Island, you will board an old prison bus, where you will be taken on a tour of the island, with your English Speaking Guide.  You will then be met by a former prisoner of Robben Island, who will take you through the prison cells, which are filled with history.  Return to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront Complex, with the rest of the day at your leisure.

Tonight, we would like to suggest a special evening meal, for your last night of stay in Cape Town.  Tonight, please pre book a table at the Blues Restaurant in Camps Bay.  The restaurant offers World Class Cuisine, ranging from Sea Food and any tastes.  Offering spectacular views of the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean while you sit back and enjoy the “Finest of the Cape”

16 October, “Return to London Heathrow”

Breakfast at the hotel this morning. Settle all personal accounts and check out of the hotel.  Note that official check out time at the hotel is at 11.00 hrs and late check out can only be guaranteed on the day of departure. 

Spend the rest of the day enjoying some last minute shopping and sightseeing in Cape Town.  In the later part of the afternoon, return your hired car to the Europ Car Depot at Cape Town International Airport. From here, you will check in at the International Departures Halls at the South African Airways Counters for the onward flight in Economy Class Seating to London Heathrow.
