Each
summer, the most famous Opera Festival in Italy is held in the Roman Arena at
Verona. It's worth attending a performance even if you are not a huge opera fan,
to enjoy the spectacle of thousands of people gathering excitedly and lighting
their candles as the moon drops behind the stage and the stars come out. The
atmosphere in the arena makes an unforgettable experience.
This year with two of Verdi’s greatest operas, the majestic Aida, the stirring Nabucco and Puccini's romantic piece La Boheme.
Arblaster and Clarke's Verona Opera and Wine Tour is a magical combination. By day journey though the wine villages of Veneto such as Valpolicella and Soave and on the shores of Lake Garda, and by night experience the glamour and intensity of world-class Opera in the magical setting of the Verona Arena.
Verona
is a beautiful small city, which is easy to explore. The heart of the old town
around Piazza Bra and Via Mazzini (the main shopping street) has been
pedestrianised. As you stroll around you are confronted by history; the Arena
itself, the many Renaissance buildings, the 14th century Castelvecchio and the
balcony claimed to feature in Romeo & Juliet.
The Hotel: The Giberti is a modern very centrally located 4 star hotel, a
mere 10 minute level walk from the arena, so that, most importantly, after the
opera you don’t have long return coach journey, instead, sit out in the Piazza
Bra with a late night drink or be back at the hotel in minutes.
So, importantly, there is no fighting to find your coach at 1am for a lengthy journey home as happens with some "Verona" Opera tours.
The Itinerary is relaxed with late starts and great lunches after wine tastings at top Veronese wine estates. There will be plenty of time to enjoy Verona’s Roman and Medieval sites, elegant shops, bars and restaurants.

The Wines: The Veneto region, which surrounds Verona produces the famous wines of Valpolicella and Soave. The former is a red wine made from local grape varieties and appears in many forms, from a light, cherry scented quaffing wine, through the mid-weight 'ripasso' style to the high point of Amarone and Recioto. Stunning wines - the raw power of the Amarones will bowl you over!
The white wine of Soave Classico is also available in everything from light dry style to a luscious late harvest ‘Recioto’. Other local wines include Lugana and Bardolino.

Our wine visits will be memorable. We visit the
dynamic firm of Zenato, and with the family run Ca’ dei Frati. The tour
concludes with lunch at Count Alighieri’s ancient Valpolicella estate.

in Verona itself. A private wine tour can be arranged to leading wine estates
